2025 Summer Camp Counselor, Polk County YMCA, NC (Seasonal)
Under the supervision of the Director and Summer Camp Coordinator, a Camp Counselor provides direction for the program and classroom and implements the program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the utmost importance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates in ratio of age group assigned and fulfilled all the responsibilities of a counselor plus:
2. Leading their age group and actively engaging with all children in the group.
3. Leading swim lessons for non-swimmers during swim times (assistance given when needed based on ratios).
4. Helps lead weekly camp meetings and training.
5. Helps plan components of camp.
6. Is a role model for Y policies and practices.
7. Helps perform specific duties on field trips such as bus head counts, checking the field trip in with the destination, carrying camper medication, and others as needed.
8. Responsible for cleanliness of program area.
9. Other duties as needed and assigned by Camp Coordinators and Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
2. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
3. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting is preferred.
4. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
5. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
6. Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
7. Run, jump, lift, carry, push, as well as any other physical actions that are needed.
